Ever since she was a little girl, seventeen-year-old Cassidy Crowe never trusted fairy tales. Only the worst parts ever came true.

In her home of Whisper’s Edge, two immortal queens rule—one, who has trapped half the land in eternal day, and the other, in eternal night. Suspended from time, Cassidy and her sisters have been toiling away in a starving town under the sun queen’s merciless, eternal daylight. They’re told that without the spell, a terrible curse will return to the land.

But Cassidy and her Ma are also “blessed” with a power—the shameful, lethal ability to decay anything, dead or alive, with their touch. When Cassidy’s Ma sacrifices herself in order to amplify her daughter's power tenfold, she charges Cassidy to rot the queens down before they renew their power at the end of the century. But Ma must have lost her mind. If the queens die, time will set right back in motion and so will a deadly curse.

Desperate to free Whisper’s Edge, Cassidy sneaks into the midnight city with an impossible plan to break the curse and vanquish the queens. There, she meets the devilishly handsome Jameson Lancaster, a boy who’s never seen the sun. Jameson moonlights as a host at a lounge in the Dark City’s infamous pleasure district. When he’s not romancing his guests, he’s sneaking off to serve as the night queen’s secret paramour. But Jameson yearns for a world beyond his queen’s midnight wall, and Cassidy is the closest to the sun he’s ever been. What he doesn’t know is he’s unwittingly thrown his heart into Cassidy’s twisted bargain, one that might free him and Cassidy forever or leave them both to rot.

Caught between a cruel sun and a beckoning night, Cassidy must summon all her strength and cunning to free herself and her town—where the tall grasses whisper with unforgiven secrets, especially her own.

Infused with gothic atmosphere and organic horror, Pale Night Dark City explores the possibility of true love when the fairy tales shatter, and complexities of forgiveness—of oneself, among sisters, and between star-crossed lovers.

Stella Wren grew up in Miamiimage and moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in design and art direction, graduating from USC with a BA in studio art. Inspired by her visual roots, Stella's writing combines her three loves: the magicalimage, the darkimage, and the romanticimage with an emphasis on cinematic prose and larger-than-life characters.

These days she splits her time between words and pictures, as a writer and a design director. When she’s not working on her next project, she’s probably finding a new favorite font or styling her latest lookimage.
